Job summary

The position is responsible for supervising the maintenance and repair of city streets and related infrastructure. It involves supervising staff, coordinating trash pickup, and overseeing asphalt/concrete work in public rights-of-way, along with lawn care, sign creation, and equipment scheduling.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, six years of street maintenance experience, five years of heavy equipment operation, and relevant Florida licenses or the ability to obtain

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Six years of street maintenance experience, preferably in Street/Road Department environment.
• Five years of heavy equipment operation experience.
• Must possess or be able to obtain Florida driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• Class B CDL required within one year of employment (Class A preferred).
• Must obtain MOT Intermediate from FDOT within one year.
• ROW Herbicide Spray License within one year.
• Aquatic Herbicide Spray License within one year.
• Equivalents accepted based on experience and training.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and participates in training of new employees and temporary staff.
• Oversees trash pickup on roadways, parks, and city-owned areas.
• Helps install and repair asphalt and concrete in public rights-of-way.
• Oversees brush clearing and lawn maintenance within rights-of-way.
• Maintains grounds, planting and cleanup in city areas.
• Assists in long-range planning for the Street Department.
• Keeps up-to-date with current industry developments.
• Assists in material and equipment purchasing for the department.
• Supervises street maintenance along sidewalks, curbs, stormwater ponds, and ditches.
• Coordinates and schedules routine equipment maintenance.
• Supervises and plans work schedules and assigns duties.
• Oversees street sign creation and maintenance.
• Manages disciplinary matters and resolves conflicts within the team.
• Maintains daily records and work orders.

Education

High school diploma or GED

Six years street maintenance experience

Five years heavy equipment experience

State of Florida driver’s license or ability to obtain

Class B CDL (Class A preferred)

MOT Intermediate – FDOT license within 1 year

ROW Herbicide Spray License within 1 year

Aquatic Herbicide Spray License within 1 year

Any equivalent combination of experience and training
