Job summary

City of La Marque is seeking a Street Maintenance Technician to perform skilled labor in maintaining streets, sidewalks, and related infrastructure. The role supports asphalt/concrete repairs, sign installation, and storm response under the Street Foreman, operating light equipment with safety at the forefront.

Responsibilities include pothole patching, base repairs, and setting up roadwork zones. Candidates should have a HS diploma and 1 year in public works maintenance preferred.

Job description

The Street Maintenance Technician performs skilled and semi-skilled labor in the maintenance and repair of the City’s streets, sidewalks, rights-of-way, and related infrastructure. Under the supervision of the Street Foreman, this position supports asphalt and concrete repairs, sign installation, and storm response efforts. The technician operates light equipment and tools and ensures that work is performed safely and in accordance with City standards.

Street & Infrastructure Maintenance

• Perform pothole patching, base repairs, crack sealing, and other road surface maintenance tasks.
• Assist with concrete work including sidewalks, curbs, and driveways.
• Clean and clear roadways, ditches, and storm drains of debris and obstructions.

Signage & Traffic Control

• Install and replace street signs and traffic control signs under supervision.
• Set up work zones with proper traffic control devices including cones, signs, and barricades.
• Follow MUTCD standards and safety protocols for signage work.

Equipment Use & Safety

• Operate hand tools, jackhammers, compactors, and other light equipment safely.
• Perform daily inspections and minor maintenance on tools and assigned equipment.
• Follow all safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE while on duty.

Emergency Response

• Respond to street maintenance issues during emergencies including flooding, debris removal, or washouts.
• Participate in after-hours and on-call rotation for street-related emergencies.
• Assist with barricade setup and hazard mitigation during storm events.

Other Duties

• Perform other related duties as assigned.
