Job summary

City of Des Moines is seeking a Street Maintenance Administrator to oversee street and bridge maintenance operations, emergency response, and budgeting within the Public Works Department. The role requires leadership of section chiefs and coordination with city departments, contractors, and agencies.

The position entails developing policies to improve efficiency, managing resources, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards, including emergency flood and snow operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required in civil engineering, construction management, public administration, business administration, or related field.
• Seven (7) years of experience in public works operations with a management role including emergency operations such as flood and snow events.
• Graduate education may substitute for up to two years of experience on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes, directs and evaluates the work of Section Chiefs supervising street and bridge maintenance, repair and construction activities.
• Develops policies and procedures to increase efficiency and address street maintenance infrastructure needs.
• Develops and administers the Division budget.
