Job summary

City of Hickory seeks a Supervising Maintenance Worker to oversee street maintenance crews, inspect work, and ensure safety and quality in all assignments. You will train new employees, supervise vehicle and equipment operation, and coordinate daily field activities across urban and residential streets.

Candidates should have a high school diploma, a valid North Carolina Class C driver’s license (Class B CDL preferred), and 1–3 years of related experience.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 18.
• Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must possess a minimum of a valid North Carolina Class C driver's license; Class B CDL preferred.
• PLEASE NOTE: Applicants must meet the City criteria for an acceptable driving record.
• Experience usually associated with one to three years of experience or service.
• Knowledge of street construction, maintenance, and repair procedures and methods.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and participates in the work of various types of city crews engaged in concrete, storm drainage and street maintenance.
• Operates various equipment required in assigned duties.
• Supervises and instructs employees on work methods, procedures, standards, and safety practices related to their assignments.
• Performs routine inspection of equipment, including checking fluid and fuel levels.
• Installs and repairs storm drains.
• Patrols streets to detect necessary repairs and improvements.
• Supervises and participates in the repair of potholes.
• Assists in the preparation for special events.
• Prepares daily work reports.
• Makes on-site inspections of work in progress.
