Job summary

City of Sacramento is seeking a trainee for heavy manual labor in the construction, maintenance and repair of city streets and facilities. You will operate light trucks and a range of street construction equipment under supervision.

Education requirements are a high school diploma or GED; no prior experience is required. A Class B license will be needed by the end of two-year training, with pre-employment drug testing and residency within 35 miles of specified streets.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• None of the following is required by default: prior work experience.

Responsibilities

• Learn to spread asphaltic material and patch road surfaces.
• Learn to operate street construction equipment and hand tools.
• Set out and pick up barricades and warning signs.
• Perform related concrete work and routine equipment maintenance.
• Work under supervision and complete tasks in training capacity.
