Power & Construction Group, Inc. is seeking a Stray Voltage Tester/Utility Pole Technician to support utility infrastructure programs across New York State, based out of Rochester, NY.

This hands-on, outdoor role involves inspecting wooden utility poles to enhance system reliability. Daily field work uses UTVs/other vehicles in varying terrain and weather conditions, with travel within RG&E NYSEG regions and potential overnight stays.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in varied conditions.
• Valid driver’s license with clean record; ability to operate UTVs/side-by-sides.

Responsibilities

• Perform groundline and above-ground inspections of wooden utility poles.
• Identify and document decay, damage, infestation, and deficiencies.
• Conduct visual inspection of electric transmission equipment atop poles.
• Safely operate UTVs and company vehicles to access job sites.
• Record inspection results and locations using mobile devices or software.
• Follow safety policies, PPE usage, chemical handling and disposal rules.
• Maintain vehicles, UTVs, tools and equipment in safe condition.
• Communicate professionally with supervisors, utility reps, landowners and the public.
• Travel daily within RG&E NYSEG regions; overnight travel may be required.

Stray Voltage Tester/Utility Pole Technician (Rochester, NY)

Position Overview:

We are seeking Stray Voltage Tester/Utility Pole Technician to support utility infrastructure programs across New York State. This position involves field inspection of wooden utility poles to ultimately drive system reliability.

This is hands‑on, outdoor work performed in varying terrain and weather conditions. Technicians will regularly use UTVs (side‑by‑sides) and other field vehicles to safely access utility rights‑of‑way.

Specific responsibilities of this role will include but not be limited to:

• Perform groundline and above‑ground inspections of wooden utility poles in accordance with industry best practices
• Identify and document pole conditions including decay, damage, insect infestation, and structural deficiencies
• Conduct a visual inspection of electric transmission equipment on the top of each utility pole.
• Safely operate UTVs (side‑by‑sides) and company vehicles to access remote or off‑road work areas
• Accurately record inspection results and locations using mobile devices or inspection software
• Follow all safety policies, including proper PPE use, chemical handling, storage, and disposal
• Maintain company vehicles, UTVs, tools, and equipment in safe working condition
• Communicate professionally with supervisors, utility representatives, landowners, and the public as needed
• Travel daily throughout the RG&E NYSEG regions; overnight travel may be required depending on project location

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in outdoor environments
• Comfortable working around active utility infrastructure and roadways
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
• Ability to safely operate UTVs/side‑by‑sides (training provided if needed)
• Familiarity with mobile inspection or data collection software a plus
• Candidates should have at least two years of licensed driving experience; no "major" violations in the last 36 months and no more than 2 “minor” violations in the last 36 months.

Compensation:

• $22.00-$26.00 per hour. Employees receive a generous per diem to cover hotels and food, in addition to their hourly wage.Considerable overtime is also available.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Walk uneven terrain, roadways, and utility rights‑of‑way

Location:

• Based out of Rochester, NY.Candidates should live within 75 miles of this location.
