Job summary

AFSCME in Detroit is seeking an Organizer paid on a salary basis with knowledge of MERC and NLRB procedures to run organizing campaigns. The role includes organizing committees, home visits, voter assessment, and implementing the AFSCME Organizing Model.

You will conduct one-on-one outreach, mobilize workers, train leaders, and develop campaign messaging with Communications staff, exercising discretion and independent judgment.

Qualifications

• Conducts one-on-one organizing through home and work site visits to recruit supporters and leaders.
• Develops and leads worker mobilizations; plans and conducts organizing committee meetings and workshops.
• Develops broad worker-leader committees and trains them to move the campaign.
• Writes field/work/turf plans to implement the overall organizing campaign and counter anti-union efforts.

Responsibilities

• Conducts one-on-one organizing through home and work site visits to accurately assess and recruit supporters and leaders.
• Develops and leads worker mobilizations; plans and conducts meetings with organizing committees and other workers in the campaign including public speaking and workshops.
• Develops broad, representative organizing committees of worker-leaders, and trains and deploys them to move the campaign.
• Contributes to the development of strategic campaign planning and messaging, drafts basic leaflets and newsletters with Communications staff.
• Writes field/work/turf plans to implement campaign goals and counters anti-union campaigns.
