Job summary

Markel Group seeks a junior underwriter to join the underwriting team in Alpharetta, GA. The role handles day-to-day client servicing, underwriting issues, and workflow management to ensure superior client experiences.

It supports more senior underwriters and focuses on broker relationships and new business development. The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree (preferred) and at least 1 year of relevant experience, with strong communication, multitasking, and detail orientation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 1+ years of relevant work experience and education.
• Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage renewal business under supervision and move to writing new business; prepare analysis of exposure and present to Underwriter for signoff.
• Gather and review information on financial conditions, risk exposure, loss history, and economic trends affecting terms and conditions.
• Extract internal data and research external information to identify trends impacting product line.
• Provide basic forms/coverage interpretations and advise on additional coverage needs, evaluate exposures, and underwrite policy change requests.
• Ensure accurate underwriting documentation in the account management system and adherence to documentation standards.
• Establish and maintain effective client relationships and coordinate with employees across the organization.
