Job summary

Gulf Island is seeking a Technical Purchasing Agent in Houma, LA. The role sources, evaluates and purchases technical equipment, materials and services to support operations, working closely with engineering, maintenance and project teams to meet specs and schedules.

This position requires 3+ years in purchasing in industrial settings, strong supplier negotiation, ERP/Excel proficiency, and the ability to read drawings and BOMs.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in purchasing, procurement or supply chain in industrial/technical settings.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specs and BOMs.
• Knowledge of procurement practices, vendor management and contract negotiation.
• Proficient with ERP systems and MS Office, especially Excel.
• Strong analytical, organizational and problem solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and multitasking ability.

Responsibilities

• Source and procure technical equipment, parts, materials and services in accordance with requirements.
• Review drawings, specs and BOMs to determine purchasing needs.
• Obtain and analyze supplier quotations, lead times and product specs.
• Negotiate pricing, contracts, delivery schedules and terms with vendors.
• Issue purchase orders and monitor order status for on-time delivery.
• Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and manufacturers.
• Coordinate with engineering, maintenance, operations and project teams on procurement needs.
• Evaluate supplier performance on quality, delivery, cost and responsiveness.
• Resolve purchasing issues, discrepancies, and vendor claims.
• Maintain purchasing records in ERP or procurement systems and monitor inventory levels.
