Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. in Lafayette, IN is seeking a Supplier Development Engineer to assess supplier quality and ensure parts meet manufacturing specs and regulatory standards.

You will lead quality improvements across the supply base and partner with vendors to drive defect reduction. This role emphasizes rigorous process controls, supplier audits, and cross-functional collaboration within the Large Power Systems Division to enable reliable, compliant, and cost-effective sourcing for Caterpillar

Qualifications

• Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques.
• Level Working Knowledge: giving feedback, listening, presenting, and reporting.
• Problem solving methods and applying them to diverse situations.
• Knowledge of manufacturing standards and policies in production activities.
• Supplier management concepts and building partnerships with suppliers.
• Knowledge of supplier evaluations and certification processes.

Responsibilities

• Ensure quality of supplies by conducting tests and assessments on incoming materials and developing supplier inspection and testing mechanisms.
• Generate reports on supplier quality and guide suppliers to reduce defect rates.
• Research potential vendors, assess their manufacturing environment, and conduct supplier quality audits.
• Support suppliers in improving performance through process enhancements and controls.
