Job summary

Metalico in Pittsburgh seeks a Commercial Scrap Metal Buyer to strengthen our procurement and supply chain operations. You will source, purchase, and price ferrous and non-ferrous scrap from a network of suppliers and industrial accounts, ensuring material quality and profitability.

The role demands market awareness, strong negotiation, and ability to build lasting supplier relationships while adhering to company policies and industry regulations, with a focus on cost efficiency and reliable

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• College degree in business or engineering desirable.
• 5+ years experience in a scrap business or 10 years in a related field.
• Ability to identify, grade, and determine quality ferrous metals.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Purchase ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals from suppliers and customers.
• Identify, grade, and price scrap materials as needed.
• Monitor market trends and report pricing conditions to management.
• Maintain purchase records, scale tickets, and documentation.
• Build and maintain relationships with peddlers, contractors, and industrial accounts.
• Coordinate with yard operations for unloading and inventory control.
• Arrange economical transportation of material to the plant.
• Provide monthly reports including inbound volume, material type, and price structure.
