Job summary

Bluefish is seeking an experienced Controller to own the full accounting lifecycle in New York, leading client billing, revenue recognition, and the monthly close. You will produce GAAP-compliant financials and partner with Sales, Legal, and Customer Success to ensure accurate contracts and invoicing.

You will drive process improvements, oversee reconciliations, audits, and tax filings, and also evaluate and implement new accounting systems.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with 3+ years in a managerial or senior-level role.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, revenue recognition (ASC 606), and financial reporting.
• Experience in SaaS or subscription-based businesses highly preferred.
• CPA preferred but not required.
• Startup or high-growth environment with cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Own and manage the end-to-end accounting function—from client billing setup and invoicing to revenue recognition and monthly close.
• Lead the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
• Partner cross-functionally with Sales, Legal, and Customer Success to ensure accurate contract set-up and billing.
• Establish and improve processes for invoicing, collections, revenue tracking, and cost allocations.
• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, including cash, revenue, AR, and deferred revenue.
• Manage bank reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close procedures.
• Drive continuous improvement in accounting processes and internal controls.
• Support internal and external audits, compliance reporting, and tax filings.
• Evaluate, implement, and optimize accounting systems and tools.
• Serve as a strategic advisor on financial operations, reporting, and planning initiatives.
