Job summary

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory is seeking a Risk and Insurance Manager to lead risk management initiatives and manage all insurance programs for the Laboratory. The role focuses on loss control, claims administration, and policy renewals, with a strong emphasis on workers’ compensation and safety.

The position offers a hybrid work arrangement with some remote days and requires U.S. citizenship for a DOE Q clearance.

Qualifications

• Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
• Expert knowledge and extensive experience in managing an enterpriseworkers’ compensation program and managing complex corporate insurance renewals and broker/carrier negotiations.
• Demonstrated knowledge of commercial insurance coverages and claims handling across multiple lines.
• Expert knowledge, understanding, and extensive experience in risk management and application of risk management principles for diverse, significant, and unique situations.
• Expert knowledge and understanding of legal principles of tort with experience applying in a variety of situations.
• Significant experience applying related applicable federal/state laws.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to influence executives.
• Advanced communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
• Experience in project management and handling multiple projects simultaneously.
• Proven statistical analysis and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee Laboratory-wide loss control initiatives to reduce claim costs and frequency.
• Manage all Laboratory insurance claims including workers’ compensation and liability claims.
• Analyze loss control trends and provide strategic guidance for solutions and programs.
• Provide annual reports to the Livermore Site Office Contractor Officer.
• Develop and deliver training modules to support safety and risk management.
• Lead the renewal process for corporate insurance policies (workers’ comp, GL, auto, EPL, D&O, etc.).
• Support Return to Work and Illness and Injury Prevention Programs from a WC perspective.
• Consult with stakeholders including senior leaders and contract officers for strategic guidance.
• Serve as project leader on significant programs/projects.
• Ensure Contract 44 requirements concerning insurance programs are met.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
