Job summary

American Food Service is seeking a Purchasing Agent to monitor inventory levels, replenish stock, and build strong vendor relationships to obtain high quality items at the lowest cost. The role requires reading and interpreting various documents, strong attention to detail, and the ability to lift heavy objects.

The successful candidate will manage supplier contracts, coordinate with warehouse teams on deliveries, and ensure safety standards are met while maintaining accurate purchasing records

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, procedures and purchase orders.
• Previous experience working in a warehouse is preferred.
• Keen attention to detail.
• Ability to lift heavy objects.
• Positive attitude; self-motivated; safety conscious.
• Ability to work on multiple tasks in a fast paced, busy environment.
• Great communication skills; works well on a team but can be independent at times.
• High levels of organization.

Responsibilities

• Monitor inventory levels.
• Ensure correct inventory levels are reflected in the system.
• Shop for the best available products at the lowest cost.
• Negotiate new contracts with new and existing vendors.
• Coordinate with Warehouse receiver on incoming deliveries.
• Inspect new product for quality assurance.
• Manage relationships with new and existing vendors and suppliers.
• Ensure warehouse goals are met.
• Maintain a high level of health and safety standards.
• Create purchase orders for vendors.
• Perform other general warehouse duties as needed.
