Job summary

Canteen North America is seeking a Purchasing Specialist to support school nutrition operations by developing procurement guidelines that comply with regulations and align with operational goals.

The role requires maintaining order schedules, processing orders from multiple departments, and reviewing inventories and usage projections to ensure timely vendor submissions. Strong data-entry and MS Office skills are essential, with Serv Safe certification preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1–3 years of purchasing experience preferred.
• Knowledge of food and inventory trends with a focus on operations.
• P&L accountability and contract-managed service experience desirable.
• Accurate data-entry, computer skills, and detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
• Knowledge of school nutrition/food industry and/or purchasing strongly preferred.
• Must be experienced with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Outlook, E-mail and Internet.
• Serv Safe certification highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Maintains an order schedule to assure products are in stock and avoid stockouts.
• Receives and collects product orders from different departments.
• Tracks and places daily orders to various vendors.
• Reviews all orders before submitting to vendors.
• Reviews inventory levels and compare to orders before submitting to vendors.
• Reviews usage projections and compare to orders before submitting to vendors.
• Maintains professional communication with vendors and internal teams.
• Maintains vendor and client relations.
• Collaborates with departments to enable smooth day-to-day operations.
• Completes purchasing tasks to fulfill the organization’s mission.
