Job summary

City of Appleton is seeking a Deputy Director/City Engineer to provide strategic leadership and oversight for the Engineering, Traffic, and Parking functions of the Public Works Department. The role guides planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of infrastructure and transportation systems.

Required is a Civil Engineering degree, Wisconsin PE, and at least eight years in civil or municipal engineering with leadership experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering; Wisconsin PE registration; 8+ years of progressively responsible professional experience in civil or municipal engineering, public works, project management or related field; supervisory/leadership experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, direction, and oversight for Engineering, Traffic, and Parking, including operating budgets.
• Establish divisional priorities, allocate resources, monitor progress toward objectives.
• Develop strong relationships with city leadership, elected officials, departments, consultants, and the public.
• Lead long-range infrastructure and capital improvement strategies aligned with city goals.
• Coordinate projects with departments, agencies, utilities, and stakeholders.
• Participate in budget development and long-range financial planning; identify funding sources and grants.
• Review engineering studies and recommendations; ensure regulatory compliance.
