Job summary

The Salvation Army is seeking a Communications Manager at the PMC-Central Virginia Area Command in Richmond, VA to oversee day-to-day communications operations and strengthen public awareness of the Army's mission.

The role focuses on media relations, content development across multiple formats, and coordination with leadership to manage branding, crisis communications, and donor messaging. BS required; 3+ years in PR/communications; Masters preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, or related field required; Masters preferred.
• At least three years of progressively responsible experience administering internal and external communications.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Responsibilities

• Plans, develops, coordinates, evaluates and improves the communication functions to increase public awareness and support for The Salvation Army mission.
• Prepares and disseminates internal and external news and press releases.
• Oversees donor communications including newsletters, direct mail, and direct marketing.
• Oversees multimedia communications including web and social media; maintains branding standards.
• Serves as Area Command PIO when required and writes media releases for national channels.
