Job summary

The Salvation Army in Richmond, VA is seeking a Communications Manager to lead day-to-day communication operations for the Central Virginia Area Command. You will enhance public awareness, strengthen media relationships, and coordinate internal and external communications to advance the Army’s mission.

Responsibilities include developing a comprehensive communications plan, preparing press releases, managing the website and social media, and overseeing donor communications and events.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, or a related field is required with a Masters preferred.
• At least three years of progressively responsible experience administering a variety of internal and external communication functions.
• Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Responsibilities

• Plans, develops, coordinates, evaluates and improves the communication functions for the Area Command with a goal of increasing public awareness of, and support for, the mission of The Salvation Army; develops and manages an annual Communications Plan outlining the strategies, objectives and measurable outcomes.
• Prepares and disseminates internal and external news and press releases in both written and electronic formats; shares news with divisional staff as needed ensuring integration of a common identity.
• Oversees and coordinates all donor communications with Area Commander and Development Director including donor newsletters, direct mail and direct marketing; oversees multimedia communications including web and social media.
• Manages the Area Command website and Facebook content administration; ensures branding standards and regular posting of news and information.
• Implements and strengthens awareness and support for the National Branding Promise in coordination with HQ Communications Bureau.
