Job summary

Clean Harbors is seeking a Strategic Project Manager to plan, coordinate, and report the status of projects from initiation to implementation, including managing costs, resources, risks, scope, and issues to maximize business benefits.

You will work with management and senior leadership across North America to develop action plans, lead cross-functional teams, and ensure stakeholders understand project plans. Travel about 25% is expected.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in project management and/or construction management.
  • Environmental Services experience preferred.
  • Ability to lead complex operational and strategic projects.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Travel approximately 25% domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and report status of projects from initiation to implementation.
  • Develop and roll out action plans with North America teams.
  • Manage project scope, costs, resources, risks, and issues.
  • Lead cross-functional teams and coordinate with stakeholders and contractors.
  • Monitor progress and communicate metrics to senior management.
  • Perform post-implementation reviews and capture lessons learned.

Clean Harbors is looking to hire a Strategic Project Manager that will be responsible to plan, coordinate, and report the status of projects from initiation to implementation, including managing project costs, resources, change requests, risks, scope, and issues to ensure that maximum business benefits are achieved.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work with the company's management and senior leadership to drive and implement operational projects related to cost improvement, revenue enhancement, or process improvement.
  • Work with functional team leaders on the development and roll‑out of action plans across North America.
  • Develop project plans and ensure that the scope and approach are fully understood by all stakeholders.
  • Lead initiatives, including construction projects and branch relocations, through on‑site project management, working directly with company stakeholders as well as third‑party contractors.
  • Lead cross‑functional teams, including recurring touchpoints to manage task ownership and progress.
  • Monitor and communicate progress of project delivery in terms of cost, forecast, schedule, scope, and assessment of risks and issues to senior management and to the broader organization.
  • Identify and track key project milestones and elevate issues or obstacles to ensure the timely resolution of barriers.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the industry and organizational environment and its impact on objectives.
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships and identify and share best practices in analyses and methodologies with peers and project team members.
  • Facilitate post implementation reviews and ensure "lessons learned" are acted upon and implemented.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma Required
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in project management and/or construction management preferred.
  • Environmental Services experience preferred
  • Demonstrated strong performance in prior roles, with increasing levels of responsibility and independence.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex operational and strategic projects.
  • Must be a team player who works well with technical and non-technical resources, capable of both direct and matrix management
  • Distinctive problem solving and analysis skills
  • Ability to take strategic direction
  • Ability to see tasks through to completion without significant guidance
  • Ability to work independently
  • Impeccable business judgment and ability to communicate with highly technical management team
  • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • Travel as required (approximately 25% of the time domestically and internationally)
  • Able to perform general office skills
  • Requires speaking and listening
