Job summary

Auburn University Applied Research Institute (ARI) in Huntsville, AL is seeking a Program Planning and Control Lead to oversee the business, financial, and operational functions that support ARI’s research initiatives.

This role drives budgeting, reporting, compliance, and operational coordination for multiple projects, partnering with university leadership, industry collaborators, and government stakeholders to enable strategic objectives and responsible resource management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or a degree plus a CPA/MBA/CIA/CFE/CME or similar designation.
• 5 years of experience in accounting services.
• U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

• Develops, administers, and monitors budgets for multiple projects and initiatives; manages financial operations including accounts payable, general ledger transactions, reconciliations, forecasting, and month-end close activities.
• Prepares, analyzes, and distributes monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad hoc financial and operational reports.
• Coordinates financial administration of contracts, grants, and sponsored projects ensuring compliance with sponsor requirements and applicable regulations.
• Supports audits by maintaining documentation and implementing corrective actions to strengthen controls.
• Evaluates business processes and workflows; recommends improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
• Collaborates with university leadership and stakeholders to develop strategic initiatives and business solutions.
• Maintains project schedules, operational plans, and performance measures to support laboratory activities and project execution.
• Analyzes data to identify trends, risks, opportunities, and operational efficiencies.
• Coordinates program operations, events, and outreach activities that advance ARI's mission.
