Job summary

The Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC seeks a Supervisory Procurement & Travel Specialist to manage procurement and travel operations and supervise staff to ensure full compliance with Smithsonian procurement requirements.

You will serve as the Primary Procurement Officer for the museum’s largest acquisitions, collaborate with the SI Office of Contracting, and oversee travel policy adherence and process improvements across the department.

Qualifications

• One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Service.
• Specialized experience includes reviewing and processing procurement actions, evaluating contract plans, and guiding staff on contracting and travel policies.
• Resume must be no more than two pages and clearly demonstrate experience aligned with responsibilities and specialized experience.
• Time-in-Grade requirements apply for current or recent General Schedule positions.
• Education: This job does not have an education qualification requirement.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the Primary Procurement Officer (PPO) for NMAH, overseeing procurement and contracting activities for the museum’s largest and most complex acquisitions.
• Work with the SI Office of Contracting on complex contracts for review and approval.
• Review contract actions, provisions, and specialized contracts to assess SI compliance, strengthen competition, and ensure regulatory adherence.
• Oversee NMAH’s travel program, ensuring compliance with Smithsonian and federal travel policies.
• Supervise museum personnel responsible for purchasing, procurement, travel, and related services, including assigning work, setting priorities, and managing performance.
• Develop and evaluate museum procurement policies and procedures while providing guidance on procurement and travel-related issues.
