Job summary

Seyfarth Shaw LLP seeks a Manager, Strategic Pricing to lead financial analytics of alternative fee arrangements and client/matter profitability. You'll work under the Director, Strategic Pricing to devise AFAs, manage approvals, build reporting, and enhance pricing strategies for the firm's clients.

You will collaborate with attorneys, the proposal team, and finance to develop budgets, staffing templates, and reliable AFAs for new opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 5+ years of analytical pricing work in a law firm.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage workload.
• Team player with credibility among partners and leadership.
• Ability to analyze information from multiple sources and think critically.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Access.

The Opportunity

Working under the supervision of the Director, Strategic Pricing, the Manager, Strategic Pricing plays a critical role in managing the financial analytical functions of alternative fee arrangements (AFA) and client/matter profitability. In addition, this person will be a key member of the team in devising creative alternative fee arrangements, managing the review/approval process, developing reporting capabilities, and implementing strategies for leveraging AFAs to the betterment of the Firm.

The Day-To-Day

On Any Given Day, You Will

• Work with attorneys, the proposal team, the Senior Director and Director of Strategic Pricing, and the Finance Department to prepare the financial and pricing responses to client RFP submissions.
• Work with Department and Practice Group leaders to develop and implement staffing and budget templates that can be used as the basis for efficient development and evaluation of AFAs for recurring matter types. Evaluate the reliability of the templates and work with the subject matter experts to edit the templates based on the findings.
• Use our internal tools, mine information about our past investment in different types of work to develop reliable budget estimates and/or AFAs for new opportunities.
• Understand the different type of AFAs available and what AFA works best with different areas of law.
• Participate in training practice group leaders and practice development team on best practices for pricing strategies.
• Shepherd the approval process for pricing requests, based on Firm guidelines and best practices.
• Supervise the AFA workflow process to include matter intake, financial modeling, evaluation of staffing models and internal billing practices.

You Have

• A Bachelor's Degree (Required)
• 5+ years' experience of analytical pricing work in a law firm environment.
• A demonstrated ability to communicate persuasively, both orally and in writing, on a prepared and extemporaneous basis.
• The ability to adapt to changing priorities and maintain a productive and committed work effort, meeting deadlines and managing workload.
• The ability to work with others effectively in a team or cooperative environment to complete projects and to reach established goals and objectives in a timely manner.
• A hands-on self-starter attitude with the desire, drive, and ability to establish and maintain credibility among the firm's Partners, officers and other decision makers.
• The ability to analyze and interpret information from a variety of sources, apply critical and creative thinking to draw conclusions or develop solutions to complex problems.
• The ability to provide quality client service to both internal and external contacts, regarding matters of a complex nature. Requires patience, creativity and discretion.
• A demonstrated proficiency in all Microsoft office products, specifically Excel and Access.

Boston: The full time salary range for this role is $145,000-$160,000 annually, which is based on a 40 hour work week.

Chicago: The full time salary range for this role is $135,000-$149,000 annually, which is based on a 40 hour work week.

Los Angeles: The full time salary range for this role is $144,000-$159,000 annually, which is based on a 40 hour work week.

San Francisco: The full time salary range for this role is $150,000-$165,000 annually, which is based on a 40 hour work week.

Seattle: The full time salary for this role is $144,000-$159,000 annually, which is based on a 40 hour work week.

Washington, DC: The full time salary range for this role is $144,000-$158,000 annually, which is based on a 40 hour work week.

This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role in the locations listed above at the time of this posting. An employee’s pay within the salary range will be based on numerous factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographical location and business or organizational needs. This job is also eligible for an annual merit increase and bonus pay.
