Job summary

Base, a next-generation power company, is seeking a Power Trader in Austin to build short-term strategies for ERCOT and later PJM. You will contribute to Trading & Risk by shaping exposure across generation and load and help drive long-term price views with a rigorous, portfolio-focused approach.

You will trade short-term power products, refine hedge strategies, and articulate market views to leadership. Collaboration in a fast-paced, in-person team is essential.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years trading power products on a bank, utility, or merchant desk.
• Experience with forward curves, hedge instruments, and short-term markets.
• Portfolio construction across a book of exposures.
• Strong fundamentals-based view on congestion, constraints, and load/generation.
• ERCOT focus with PJM expansion in scope.
• Ability to work as an independent contributor in a small, fast-moving team.
• Python modeling experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Trade short-term power products to capture incremental margin with room for longer horizons.
• Strengthen hedge strategy with portfolio-construction approach across battery fleet and retail load.
• Contribute to long-term price forecasts incorporating market fundamentals into trading and hedging decisions.
• Articulate market views, rationale, and P&L drivers to leadership.
• Evaluate capacity markets and structured products for hedge/trading value in ERCOT and PJM and beyond.
