Job summary

The Maryland Department of General Services (DGS) invites qualified applicants for a Special Assistant to support the Assistant Secretary in Business Enterprise Administration. You will oversee special projects, manage sensitive issues with policy impact, and help ensure timely, accurate reporting and communications.

Responsibilities include planning and implementing large projects, conducting research, preparing briefings, coordinating meetings, and drafting high-level correspondence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, Government Affairs, or closely related field.
  • Experience with modern project management software, data visualization tools, or advanced spreadsheet functions.
  • Ability to synthesize complex information into executive briefings, reports, and presentations.
  • Experience in relationship management with academic institutions, local government, or community stakeholders.
  • Track record of identifying operational inefficiencies and implementing streamlined processes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic advice and act as a thought partner to the Assistant Secretary.
  • Plan, manage, and implement large-scale projects meeting timelines and quality goals.
  • Conduct research, fact-finding, and data analysis to inform policy decisions.
  • Manage inquiries and coordinate internally, following up to resolve issues promptly.
  • Draft and finalize high-level department correspondence and briefing memos.
  • Identify operational gaps and recommend policy or procedural solutions.
  • Coordinate high-level meetings, agenda prep, note-taking, and action follow-up.
  • Handle confidential administrative tasks including scheduling, briefings, and procurement.
