Job summary

City of College Station is seeking a Payroll Specialist to ensure accurate payroll processing, deductions, and reporting. The role supports payroll, time and attendance, and related accounting functions, maintaining confidentiality and compliance with city policies.

The position requires an Associate's degree in accounting/finance and relevant experience with payroll systems. Strong communication and problem-solving abilities are essential for collaborating with HR, managers, and vendors.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in accounting/finance with 2+ years accounting/finance experience or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of AP, AR, payroll processes and reporting.
  • Experience with payroll calculations, tax filings, and year-end reporting.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Detail-oriented and well organized with problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Process daily payroll operations and time/attendance data; maintain confidentiality.
  • Review records for accuracy; enter payroll; handle garnishments and deductions; prepare reports.
  • Prepare bi-weekly ACH transfers and journal entries.
  • Produce monthly and quarterly reports including 941s and W-2s.
  • Respond to payroll inquiries; liaise with HR, management, and vendors.
  • Support accounting operations including AP, AR, and month-end close.
