Job summary

Ultimate Staffing in Milford CT is seeking an experienced Purchasing Agent for a manufacturing client. The role focuses on sourcing metals, raw materials, and production components, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring timely procurement to support production operations.

You will handle purchase orders, negotiate terms, monitor inventory levels, and analyze market trends to achieve cost savings while maintaining quality.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3-5 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience purchasing metals (steel, aluminum, copper, stainless steel, or other industrial materials).
• Strong understanding of procurement, inventory control, and supply chain processes.
• Experience working with BOMs, engineering drawings, and manufacturing specifications.
• Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and vendor management skills.

Responsibilities

• Procure metals, raw materials, components, and supplies to support manufacturing operations.
• Source, evaluate, and maintain relationships with qualified suppliers to ensure quality, pricing, and delivery requirements are met.
• Negotiate pricing, contracts, and delivery schedules with vendors to achieve cost savings and operational efficiency.
• Review purchase requisitions for accuracy and compliance with company purchasing policies.
• Create, issue, and manage purchase orders while tracking order status and resolving delivery issues.
• Coordinate with Engineering, Production, and Quality departments regarding material specifications and purchasing requirements.
• Maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and related purchasing documentation.
• Monitor inventory levels and collaborate with production planning to prevent shortages and minimize excess inventory.
• Analyze purchasing trends, supplier performance, and market conditions to support strategic sourcing initiatives.
• Ensure purchased materials meet company quality standards and manufacturing specifications.
• Resolve supplier quality, pricing, and delivery concerns in a timely and professional manner.
• Maintain accurate purchasing records within the ERP/MRP system.
