Job summary

Sylvester & Cockrum is seeking an Estimator to develop accurate, competitive estimates for mechanical construction projects, including piping, plumbing, electrical, and controls. You will evaluate plans, specifications, labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor pricing to support bids and profitable execution.

The role collaborates with Operations, Project Management, vendors, and customers through preconstruction and turnover, identifying risks and value engineering opportunities, and

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
• Five+ years estimating, project management, purchasing, or related mechanical construction experience.
• Experience estimating mechanical construction work such as HVAC, piping, plumbing, electrical, controls, or related commercial/industrial systems.

Responsibilities

• Identify and prioritize bid opportunities aligned with capabilities and objectives.
• Review plans, specs, addenda, bid forms, schedules, and documents to determine scope.
• Perform quantity takeoffs and develop labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
• Solicit and evaluate pricing from suppliers/subcontractors reflecting scope and bid requirements.
• Develop labor estimates using manpower, productivity, wage rates, and installation requirements.
• Coordinate with Operations regarding labor availability, schedule, and constructability.
• Prepare complete bid proposals and ensure timely submissions.
