Job summary

Synectics Inc. seeks an experienced Senior Mechanical Estimator to define mechanical scope, develop bid plans, and lead detailed takeoffs for HVAC, piping, and related work in Springfield, MA. You will coordinate with operations, project management, and engineering to ensure accurate estimates and competitive bids.

The role requires strong proficiency with digital takeoff tools, AutoBid, and Excel, plus the ability to manage multiple bids and communicate complex cost data clearly.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of mechanical estimating experience in commercial or industrial HVAC, piping, and plumbing.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, construction means and methods, and codes.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specs, addenda, and contracts.
• Proficiency with estimating and digital takeoff software; AutoBid preferred.
• Experience with Bluebeam, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple estimates, priorities, and bid deadlines.
• Strong vendor, subcontractor, GC, and internal stakeholder communication.

Responsibilities

• Review drawings, specs, addenda, and contract documents to define complete mechanical scope.
• Develop bid plans, bid calendars, priorities, and internal assignments.
• Perform and oversee detailed digital quantity takeoffs reflecting project requirements.
• Identify constructability issues and document clarifications for bid day.
• Solicit subcontractor coverage and issue RFQs with clear scope and schedule.
• Analyze quotations to confirm scope completeness and value.
• Develop pricing using market conditions and historical data.
• Lead estimate reviews and page turns to validate quantities and pricing.
• Prepare bid forms, scope letters, and narrative communications.
• Evaluate risks, contingencies, and markups; coordinate with PM/engineering.
• Collaborate on value engineering options while maintaining code compliance.
• Support go/no-go decisions with ROM budgets and workload assessments.
• Attend pre-bid meetings, site walks, and client/GC meetings.
• Support post-bid negotiations and contract clarifications.
• Lead estimating-to-operations turnover with recap and assumptions.
• Provide daily leadership to estimating staff and mentor team.
• Maintain and improve estimating procedures and cost databases.
• Maintain organized bid documentation per company standards.
• Track bid activity and market conditions for future strategy.
