Partnership Employment is partnering with a nonprofit to hire a Managing Attorney who will work closely with the Chief Legal Officer to shape the future of the legal department.

The role suits an experienced civil litigator and attorney manager who will lead and develop the legal team, advise across the organization, and contribute to risk management, contracts, training, and legal technology. Expect growth into department strategy over time.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising and developing attorneys.
• Active Massachusetts Bar admission.
• Ability to manage complex legal matters with sound judgment.
• Strong written, oral advocacy, and negotiation skills.
• Experience with contracts, regulatory matters, real estate, housing, or nonprofit organizations is helpful.
• Comfortable blending litigation with advisory work.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, mentor, and develop attorneys while managing workloads across the legal team.
• Maintain an active litigation practice and handle complex matters as needed.
• Develop litigation strategy and guide attorneys handling cases.
• Advise internal teams on legal risk, compliance, contracts, policies, and operations.
• Review and negotiate commercial and real estate-related agreements.
• Translate complex legal issues into practical guidance for employees and leadership.
• Develop training and resources for non-legal teams on legal and compliance requirements.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, controls, and department efficiency.
• Help shape a formal approach to risk management and governance.
• Support the implementation and development of legal technology and contract management processes.
• Partner with the Chief Legal Officer on strategy and long-term initiatives.
