Job summary

Houston Food Bank seeks a Local Government Manager to build strategic relationships with city and county officials across 18 counties. You will pursue local funding, prepare briefs and testimony, and coordinate with partners to inform communities about food insecurity.

The role includes disaster liaison duties and engaging with local coalitions. You will lead advocacy efforts, translate policy impacts for leadership, and support the organization’s mission with strong writing and presentation

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Affairs, or a closely related field.
• 3–5 years engaging with elected officials or in public policy work.
• Experience presenting memos, reports, and testimony with strong writing.
• Fluency or working knowledge of additional languages is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Build relationships with local government officials and staff.
• Identify and pursue local funding opportunities and grants.
• Research local policies and communicate impacts to stakeholders.
• Assist in disaster liaison activities and COOP planning.
• Share talking points with media as needed.
