Job summary

The Florida Legislature is seeking a Legislative Analyst to serve a committee, legislators, and the public by researching and preparing staff analyses, reports, legislation, and amendments; answering inquiries; and drafting correspondence under supervision.

Under close supervision, the analyst applies expertise in legal terminology and research to develop briefs, presentations, and policy documents; coordinates staff activities and liaises with agencies and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and three years of professional experience in research, analysis, program planning and evaluation, or administrative work.
• Master’s degree can substitute for one year of required experience.
• Doctorate can substitute for two years of required experience.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes and objectively summarizes proposed legislation to determine its effectiveness and impact.
• Researches and drafts legislation and amendments to legislation at the direction of the committee chair and members.
• Assists in planning committee meetings including agenda, speakers, presentations, and materials.
• Monitors implementation of legislation to ensure legislative intent is met.
• Briefs legislators verbally or in writing on issues to be discussed in committee or with constituents.
• Prepares oral and written reports and recommendation documents.
