Job summary

The Florida Legislature is seeking a Legislative Analyst to serve the Committee on Commerce & Tourism, providing expert analysis on legal and policy issues. Under supervision, you will research and prepare staff analyses, reports, and amendments; respond to inquiries; and develop correspondence for legislators and the public.

You will summarize proposed laws, draft amendments, and coordinate with staff to prepare meeting materials, briefings, and oversight reports.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of professional experience in research, analysis, program planning and evaluation, or administrative work.
Master's degree can substitute for one year of the required experience.
Doctorate can substitute for two years of the required experience.

Responsibilities

Analyze and summarize proposed legislation to determine effectiveness and impact.
Research and draft legislation and amendments for committee reviews.
Assist in planning full committee and subcommittee meetings with agendas and materials.
Monitor implementation of legislation across branches to ensure intent is met.
Brief legislators verbally or in writing on issues for committee or constituents.
Conduct in-depth research projects and legislative studies.
Prepare oral and written reports, end-of-session analyses, and oversight recommendations.
Provide information and problem-solving assistance to legislators and the public.
Prepare letters, summaries, speeches, and memoranda on committee issues as requested.
Coordinate with administrative staff and liaise with state agencies.
