Job summary

University of New England in Maine seeks a Senior Director of Research Integrity and Compliance to lead the Office of Research and Innovation. This senior role ensures the university’s research adheres to federal, state, sponsor, and institutional requirements while fostering ethical, compliant scientific work.

The role requires strategic oversight of human subjects protections, FCOI, RCR, data management, clinical trial oversight, and research security.

Qualifications

• Significant experience administering research compliance programs in higher education or academic medicine.
• Extensive knowledge of human subjects protections, animal research regulations, biosafety, and research misconduct regulations.
• Experience leading institution-wide compliance and training initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Oversee research compliance programs and committees (IRB, IACUC, IBC, COI, RCR).
• Provide strategic guidance to faculty, staff, and administrators on regulatory and ethical research issues.
• Lead investigations of research misconduct and compliance investigations.
• Ensure compliance with NIH, NSF, FDA, OHRP, USDA, export controls and research security requirements.
• Develop, revise, and implement institutional policies related to research integrity and compliance.
• Collaborate with Sponsored Programs, General Counsel, Environmental Health & Safety, HR, and academic leadership.
• Supervise research compliance personnel and manage departmental operations.
• Support audits, inspections, and accreditation activities.
