Job summary

Brown University Health in Providence, RI, is seeking a Director of Departmental Research Administration to lead pre- and post-award management and oversee research operations. The role requires collaboration across departments, development of standardized policies, and staff development.

Hybrid work is available with weekly in-office presence. The ideal candidate has at least five years of managerial experience in research or academia and strong knowledge of federal and non-federal funding

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree; master's degree preferred.
• Knowledge of administration guidelines of federal and non-federal funding agencies supporting biomedical and clinical research.
• Excellent verbal and written skills; ability to interact with diverse stakeholders.
• Thorough knowledge of software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Windows.
• At least five years management experience in a research/academic environment including federal and non-federal funding.

Responsibilities

• Serves as point person for overall research departmental administration and ensures coordination among departments.
• Develop standardized policies, best practices, operating procedures, templates, and expectations.
• Develop metrics to guide staffing models, workload distribution, portfolio assignments, and resource allocations.
• Prepares/provides reports and documents for the Vice President of Research on a regular basis.
• Represents the DRA group at management meetings and with sponsors and university partners.
• Support staff development and training to maximize performance.
