Job summary

Akron Public Schools is seeking a Labor Relations Manager to oversee employee relations, collective bargaining, contract administration and investigations within a public K-12 district.

The role requires strong knowledge of labor laws, Civil Service guidelines, and SERB rules, with experience in unionized environments. Responsibilities include negotiation support, policy interpretation, and staff guidance, under the direction of the Executive Director of Human Resources.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in HR, labor relations, business administration or related field.
  • 5-7 years of progressive HR experience with focus on labor relations.
  • Public sector and/or K-12 district experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in employment laws, regulations, Civil Service guidelines, SERB rules and procedures preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Advise leadership on contract language, implications, and risk.
  • Conduct and oversee employee investigations.
  • Oversee the grievance process through all steps per procedures and timelines.
  • Coordinate district responses, position statements, and evidence gathering.
  • Acts as Title IX Coordinator as directed.
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws, district policies, and labor agreements.
  • Prepare and submit required documentation and reports.
  • Administers collective bargaining agreements and Civil Service procedures.
