Job summary

The School District of Philadelphia seeks an Associate General Counsel, Labor and Employment to advise the Board of Education and district leadership on a broad range of labor, employment, and litigation matters. The role requires strategic counsel, collaboration with various departments, and oversight of senior and junior staff.

Qualifications include a JD, PA bar admission (or eligibility), and at least five years of related experience.

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited law school.
• Five years of full-time, paid, professional legal experience or equivalent in a law firm, public sector law department, or corporate law department.
• Admitted to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania and in good standing, or eligible for admission within six months and licensed to practice in another state with CLE compliance.

Responsibilities

• Represent the School District, Board of Education, and District officers and employees in education, labor and employment, litigation, risk mitigation, and related issues.
• Provide legal advice and counsel on labor and employment, collective bargaining, and HR matters.
• Negotiate terms in labor arbitrations and wage/benefit agreements and participate in board hearings.
• Lead, train, and supervise Assistant General Counsel staff on labor and employment law.
