Job summary

HP is seeking an Intellectual Property Attorney to support HP's global patent portfolios. The role provides strategic counsel on IP matters, identifies legal risks, and partners with engineers and cross-functional teams to advance technology development and risk management.

The successful candidate will work independently on moderate to high complexity matters and contribute to portfolio reviews and legal strategy.

Qualifications

• Qualified Patent Attorney (US/Europe)
• Technical degree in a closely related technical field
• 4–7 years of legal IP experience in high-technology environments
• In-house or advisory experience with global tech companies preferred

Responsibilities

• Guide invention disclosures and patent strategy with R&D teams
• Manage and advise on patent portfolios across technologies or business units
• Oversee filing strategy, prosecution, maintenance and abandonment decisions
• Coordinate with outside counsel on prosecution, portfolio, and IP transactions
• Draft and review IP-related agreements and licenses
• Lead complex IP matters and contribute to strategic plans
