Job summary

Central Council of Tlingit & Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska is seeking an Intergovernmental Affairs Liaison to support the Tribe’s governmental affairs program and advance priorities related to Tribal sovereignty and public policy.

Based within the Office of the President, this role coordinates legislative, regulatory, and intergovernmental initiatives; monitors policy developments; conducts research; and prepares testimony, comments, resolutions, and briefing materials; and coordinates

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Public Policy, Native American Studies, Communications, Natural Resources, Environmental Policy, Business Administration, or a related field, plus three years of progressively responsible experience in governmental affairs, legislative affairs, Tribal government, public policy, advocacy, intergovernmental relations, or a related field.
  • Experience working with Tribal governments, Alaska Native organizations, government-to-government consultation, legislative advocacy, and federal Indian law is highly valued.
  • Tlingit & Haida exercises Tribal Preference in employment opportunities in accordance with applicable Tribal law and policy.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate legislative, regulatory, policy, and intergovernmental initiatives.
  • Monitor federal, state, Tribal, and local policy developments.
  • Conduct research and analysis; prepare testimony, consultation comments, resolutions, briefing materials, and other advocacy documents.
  • Coordinate government-to-government consultation and build collaborative relationships with Tribal governments, elected officials, governmental agencies, Alaska Native organizations, and other partners.
