Position Summary:

Democracy Forward Foundation (“Democracy Forward”) is seeking a Social Media Strategist to help tell the story of our work across social platforms, grow our base of supporters, and advance the fight for democracy.

We are looking for someone who can shape a compelling narrative across platforms and turn complex legal work into accessible, engaging stories. You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day management of our social media presence and help set and execute a long-term content strategy that reflects our values, voice, and vision.

This position is full-time. Democracy Forward’s office is located in Washington, DC. While this position offers flexibility to work remotely, it requires regular in-office presence eight (8) times per month (averaging 2 times per week) to effectively support the nature of the role.

The Social Media Strategist will report to the Director of Digital Strategy and work closely with the Public Affairs team and all staff and departments in the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Below are the key areas of responsibility for this role. The specifics of each responsibility may vary based on the needs of the organization and department.

  • Develop creative, platform-specific content strategies to engage, inform, and activate audiences across Democracy Forward’s social platforms, with a lead role on the organization’s LinkedIn content development and strategy.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations, content planning, and posting schedules of all our social media platforms with a focus on LinkedIn, while also including Instagram, TikTok, X/Twitter, Bluesky, Facebook, and YouTube.
  • Track, analyze, and regularly report on social media performance metrics to guide strategy, optimize content, and communicate impact to internal stakeholders.
  • Lead growth and experimentation on emerging platforms, particularly video-first channels, and build processes to regularly create and deploy compelling short-form video content.
  • Write social media copy that aligns with our brand and voice - from real-time updates to evergreen explainers to campaign-driven storytelling.
  • Oversee community management efforts, responding to and engaging with supporters, opinion leaders, and grassroots donors in real time to build relationships and increase reach.
  • Maintain a deep knowledge of, and curiosity about, the work we do, spotting opportunities for engagement and collaborating with our experts to communicate their work across platforms.
Qualifications:

We recognize that strong candidates may not meet 100% of the qualifications listed. If you believe you can contribute meaningfully to our team, we encourage you to apply.

  • 2-5 years of experience managing or contributing to social media programs, preferably in a mission-driven, campaign, or advocacy setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to craft and implement messaging strategies that engage, persuade, and mobilize audiences in support of a cause.
  • Deep knowledge of current and emerging best practices across social platforms, especially platforms like LinkedIn.
  • Experience using analytics tools to evaluate performance and guide decision-making.
  • A collaborative approach and proactive mindset with a desire to grow platforms, test new formats, and bring strategic recommendations to leadership.
  • Well-developed collaborative and interpersonal skills including demonstrated self-awareness, commitment to diversity and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds.
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
  • This role may require occasional travel for team retreats, conferences, or organizational meetings.
  • This role may involve sitting for extended periods and working on a computer. Reasonable accommodations will be provided as needed.

The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $90,000 plus excellent benefits. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
