Job summary

American Industrial Transport - AITX is seeking an Indirect Tax Manager to lead U.S. and Canadian indirect tax compliance, reporting, forecasting, audits, and process improvements for railcar repair and leasing operations.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Tax, you will partner with Treasury, Accounting, and Accounts Payable to ensure accurate, timely tax filings and effective tax governance across the organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. sales & use tax and property tax processes.
• Experience with Canadian GST/HST reporting is a plus.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel; SAP or ONESOURCE preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee U.S. sales and use tax compliance, reporting, and forecasting.
• Oversee U.S. property tax compliance, reporting, and forecasting for repair facilities.
• Prepare annual property tax filings for the railcar fleet and forecast tax expense.
• Prepare and review monthly Canadian GST/HST filings (about 25 returns).
• Prepare supporting materials for US and Canadian audit requests.
• Review railcar fixed asset reconciliations and support fleet renditions.
• Research US and foreign indirect tax laws to support compliance and decisions.
• Maintain the ONESOURCE Indirect Tax engine for calculations and reporting.
• Process monthly tax payments and coordinate timing with Treasury.
• Analyze plant vendor data and exemption certificate documentation.
• Coordinate documentation for tax audits and refund claims; adjust GST/HST returns as needed.
• Identify opportunities to strengthen controls and improve tax reporting accuracy.
