Job summary

The Sacred Heart University Department of Club Sports and Recreation seeks an Assistant Coach for the Men’s Ice Hockey team. This part-time role runs from September 1 to May 15 each academic year, with most games on nights and weekends.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years coaching experience at the high school, prep, junior or collegiate level.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Willing to work nights and weekends due to game schedule.
• Experience with diverse staff, including college-age students.
• Must maintain coaching certification or be willing to acquire certification.
• CPR/First Aid Certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist in developing and executing practice plans and game strategies.
• Focus on skill development of athletes with individual and group instruction.
• Aid in recruiting talented players, attending games, and evaluating recruits.
• Help manage games and ensure clear communication among players and coaches.
• Handle logistics such as scheduling, travel, equipment, and compliance.
• Provide guidance and support to athletes on and off the field.
• Ensure safety protocols and injury prevention.
• Represent the team at community events.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
