Job summary

Nevada State University seeks an Associate Vice President of Human Resources to guide talent acquisition, employee relations, and comprehensive HR services across campus. The AVP-HR reports to the VP of Finance and Business Operations and partners with NSHE for alignment on payroll, benefits, and leave programs.

The role emphasizes strategic leadership, change management, and data-driven HR service delivery while advocating inclusive excellence and ethical AI use in workforce management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in human resources, psychology, business, or related field.
• Seven years of progressively responsible HR experience, including at least five years supervising professional staff.
• Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local HR laws and regulations.
• Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Experience leading HR organizations and strong employee relations skills.
• Experience with collective bargaining, contract administration, and labor relations.
• Ability to implement best practices, collaborate with stakeholders, communicate effectively, and responsibly adopt AI in HR.

Responsibilities

• Provides leadership to the HR team in talent acquisition, operations, employee relations, engagement and retention, and organizational development.
• Oversees a six-person HR team including directors and coordinators.
• Provides counsel to the President and Executive Leadership on HR matters.
• Partners with NSHE office and institutions for alignment and best practices in HR functions.
• Prepares, manages, and oversees HR budgets.
