Job summary

Shelter Association of Washtenaw County (SAWC) is seeking a Manager of Human Resources & Employee Relations to oversee HR administration, labor relations, and benefits programs in Ann Arbor. You’ll drive talent strategy, policy development, onboarding, and training while ensuring compliance with employment laws and collective bargaining agreements.

The role reports to the Executive Director and requires a Bachelor’s degree, HR management and union-relations experience, with SHRM certification

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.
• 3–5 years of HR management experience.
• 3 years of labor relations experience in a union environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and direct Employee Relations programs and HR administration.
• Manage labor relations and compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
• Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and talent management processes.
• Administer health and welfare benefits with third‑party providers.
• Develop and update the employee handbook and HR policies.
• Prepare required reports related to employee and labor relations.
• Lead and participate in meetings with union representatives and board committees.
