Job summary

The Coastal Conservation League seeks a Senior Director of Human Resources to lead all HR functions for a nationwide nonprofit based in Charleston, SC. You will be the senior HR strategist reporting to executive leadership and guiding talent acquisition, employee relations, compensation, benefits, compliance, and organizational development.

You will partner with leaders to drive workforce planning, performance management, and culture initiatives while overseeing HR operations and governance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, Public Administration, or related field.
• Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible HR experience.
• Minimum 5 years leading organization-wide HR functions.
• Experience in employment law compliance, recruitment, compensation and benefits, and performance management.
• Proficiency with HRIS systems and MS Office; strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with organizational goals and conservation mission.
• Serve as advisor to leadership on workforce planning, organizational development, and employee engagement.
• Lead recruitment, onboarding, retention; ensure equitable hiring practices.
• Administer performance management, employee development, coaching, and recognition programs.
• Oversee compensation and benefits, annual enrollment, and relationships with brokers and providers.
• Ensure compliance with employment laws; maintain HR records and policy content.
• Coordinate learning and development, leadership training, and succession planning.
• Manage HRIS, personnel files, reporting, leave programs, and vendor relationships.
