Job summary

Gateways Hospital & Mental Health Center seeks a Manager of Health Information Management to oversee organization-wide HIM operations, privacy, and release of information across all programs. You will serve as Privacy Officer and lead staff through development and compliance with HIPAA and state regulations.

The role requires 5+ years in HIM with supervisory experience, in a behavioral health or hospital setting, and strong guidance on custody, consent, and disclosures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in health information management or related field.
• Five (5) years of progressive responsibility in HIM, including at least two (2) years supervising staff.
• Knowledge of HIPAA privacy requirements and California privacy regulations.
• Experience in behavioral health, hospital, or related healthcare settings.
• Ability to interpret requirements, manage deadlines, and guide clinical/non-clinical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Oversee HIM, medical records, release of information, and privacy operations across all programs and services.
• Lead, supervise, and develop HIM staff through coaching and performance management.
• Serve as Privacy Officer and oversee privacy program compliance with HIPAA and regulations.
• Develop and maintain HIM/privacy policies, forms, and workflows.
• Consult on custody, consent, authorization, privacy rights, and disclosures; handle complex matters.
• Oversee release of information, subpoenas, court orders, and legal requests.
