Job summary

The National Endowment for Democracy (NED) in Washington, DC is seeking a Grants Officer for the Core Strategy & Engagement (CSE) team. Hybrid role based in Washington, DC, overseeing grants for the Core institutes and ensuring compliant, timely grant administration.

You will manage grants from due diligence to closeout, guide grantees through reporting and budgets, and coordinate with internal teams to strengthen governance and accountability. 2+ years in nonprofit grants is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (international studies, nonprofit administration, etc.).
• Minimum of 2 years of grants or contract administration in a nonprofit organization or foundation.
• Familiarity with federal grant regulations and international activities related to NED’s operations.
• Demonstrated commitment to grantee-centered grantmaking with strong relationship-building.
• Strong attention to detail and timeliness in recordkeeping and follow-through.
• Experience supporting a growing team as structures and processes evolve.
• Ability to travel internationally on occasion and authorization to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Manage an assigned portfolio of grants through the full lifecycle: due diligence, awards, reporting, and closeout.
• Serve as primary contact for grantees on grant requirements, policies, and reporting expectations.
• Coordinate grant modifications and other administrative actions per policies.
• Maintain accurate grant records to support portfolio management and accountability.
• Perform timely closeouts and review financial documentation to ensure completeness.
