Job summary

The MacArthur Foundation in Chicago seeks a Program Officer, Chicago Commitment, to work with the team on all aspects of grantmaking in Chicago to advance a more connected, equitable city with shared prosperity.

The role applies expertise to develop and implement grantmaking strategies, deliver high‑quality work under pressure, build peer relationships across the Foundation, collaborate with departments, propose improvements, and create actionable project plans.

Qualifications

• Graduate training; at least five years of policy, research, or nonprofit practice.
• Strong analytical and communication skills.
• Experience with grantmaking or grant seeking is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Design and refine Chicago-based grantmaking strategies.
• Identify prospective grantees and develop proposals.
• Review proposals and monitor grant performance.
• Represent the Foundation at conferences and with public actors.
• Write extensively for internal purposes.
• Build relationships with colleagues and leaders across sectors.
