Job summary

MacArthur Foundation seeks a Chief of Operations for Lever for Change in Chicago. You will oversee daily operations, partner with the CEO and leadership to refine strategic plans, manage budgets, and ensure alignment with the foundation's mission. This role requires strong leadership, analytical skills, and experience guiding nonprofit operations.

The position reports to the CEO and is based in Chicago, IL, with accountability for cross‑functional collaboration and external vendor oversight.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree or equivalent relevant experience; MBA or MPA preferred.
• Nonprofit leadership experience in a senior role.
• Financial acumen with ability to set priorities, budgets and controls.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for cross‑functional work.
• Ability to manage complex strategic initiatives and partnerships.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the daily operations of Lever for Change.
• Lead organizational strategic planning and ensure alignment of budget, staff and priorities.
• Provide leadership in internal communications and cross‑department collaboration.
• Develop and monitor financial plans, budgets, and controls.
• Provide reporting systems for the board and leadership with key metrics.
• Coordinate execution of strategic initiatives and special projects.
