Job summary

Washington State Department of Transportation is seeking a strategic and innovative leader to manage the GIS and roadway data office, overseeing governance, operations, and enterprise services for complex geospatial assets across the agency.

You will lead 19 IT and transportation planning professionals across five teams and coordinate with federal, state, and local partners to ensure data accessibility and reliability.

Qualifications

  • Expert knowledge of geospatial and roadway data collection, processing, analysis, reporting and cartographic production
  • Advanced leadership of a diverse professional workforce and managing multi-team programs
  • Basic knowledge of transportation agency business functions and priorities
  • Basic knowledge of budget development, procurement, project management and change management
  • Basic knowledge of IT operations and interagency coordination for statewide GIS management
  • Strong ability to translate business needs into technical solutions and to communicate geospatial concepts clearly
  • Commitment to learning, growth, and service-oriented collaboration

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic governance of geospatial and roadway data and establish long-term plans for data development and accessibility
  • Oversee geospatial data operations including data processing, storage, and reporting
  • Lead enterprise GIS services, including application development and GIS software deployment
  • Ensure timely federal roadway data reporting to the FHWA and coordinate with local governments
  • Manage staff, allocate resources, and oversee a $6 million biennial budget
