Job summary

Behavioral Health Response (BHR) seeks an experienced General Counsel to serve as its in-house legal expert, advising leadership on a broad range of legal matters and supporting both nonprofit and for-profit initiatives within a dynamic behavioral health environment. This role oversees legal issues across U.S.

states and international jurisdictions, handling employment law, contracts, risk management, privacy, and compliance, while coordinating with external counsel.

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited law school and active US license.
• 7+ years of broad legal experience in nonprofit and for-profit sectors.
• Experience with multi-state and international business law, as well as employment and HR law.
• Experience with behavioral health organizations is highly preferred.
• Strong contract negotiation, drafting, and review skills.
• Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the principal legal advisor to the CEO and executive leadership, providing strategic counsel on a wide range of legal issues.
• Advise on legal and regulatory matters for both non-profit and for-profit activities, ensuring compliance with applicable laws.
• Oversee legal aspects across multiple states and international jurisdictions, including licensing and compliance.
• Educate leadership and staff on legal issues and compliance requirements and lead special projects as needed.
